The majority of pool pumps and pool filters today are made for 2" inch pvc pipes, however, many pool owners still have all 1.5" pvc pipes for their pool intake and return lines. Upgrading to 2" piping improves your flow because your total head will be lower than if you used 1.5" pipe throughout. Low head is good. Less resistance = greater flow rate = less electricity used to circulate the water.
